James Krom is a PA-based composer and pianist currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition at the University of Georgia. He mainly composes concert works, with a focus on storytelling through instrumental and vocal music.James received a Master of Music degree in composition from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied under Dr. Nancy Galbraith, and a Bachelor of Music degree in composition from The Catholic University of America, where he studied under Dr. Stephen Gorbos, Dr. Andrew E. Simpson, Dr. Joel Friedmann, and JoAnne Harris. These experiences led to many of James' first concert premieres, including Night Ride Before a Duel for symphony orchestra (Vidin Sinfonietta, Bulgaria, Summer 2023), Alleluia for concert choir (CUA, D.C, Spring 2024), Prayer of St. Francis for chamber orchestra (CUA, D.C, Fall 2024), and Wolf Rocks Expedition for youth orchestra (WYSO Philharmonic, PA, Fall 2024).James’ recent compositions include Scherzo & Adagio for symphony orchestra (CMU Philharmonic, PA, Spring 2026), To Comfort Me and For Once, Then, Something, two art song collections for tenor and piano (CMU, PA, Fall 2025), and "and on earth" for violin and piano (Blairsville Chamber Music Society, PA, Fall 2025).
